This area sits in a moderate cold climate band, and that matters more for rollers than most owners expect. Steel rollers don't care much about cold, but the grease in the bearing stiffens up, so a door that was quiet in July can start groaning in January just from thickened lubricant, not a failing roller. Nylon rollers behave differently - cheap nylon can go brittle and crack in a hard freeze, where a better-grade nylon roller holds up fine.
The other failure mode specific to houses from this build era: the track itself has usually never been re-aligned since it went in around 1985. A roller that looks worn might just be fighting a track that's drifted a quarter inch out of plumb over the decades. New rollers in a bent track wear out again within a year or two, so if the door's still rough after a roller swap, the track needs a look, not another set of rollers.
We check the track alignment as part of any roller job here, since skipping that step just means we're back at your door sooner than either of us wants.
